Tutor Common Questions/Answers

How do I get matched up to learning pods?

First make sure and sign up to become a pod teacher. After you complete your tutor profile, you will start to receive tutor job alerts. You can opt-in to receive these alerts by email and text message. When you receive these alerts, you can review the pod requirements and contact the pod families if interested.

It is very important that you fully fill out your profile page to showcase your value. To increase your chances of being chosen, make sure and respond to tutor request alerts ASAP.

How do I contact a parent or pod?

You will receive learning pod tutoring request alerts when new families post pod teacher requests that match up to you. You are able to contact the pod leader through the tutor request page which includes a contact form. Do not include your contact information when making contact from a tutoring request page. This may result in your account being disabled. After a pod accepts you as their tutor, you can provide them with your contact information and contact them through methods you both decide on or you can use our messaging system.

How do I teach pods online?

The tools and software you use to tutor students online is up to you and the student. Many tutors use Zoom, Google Meet, Adobe Connect, FaceTime, ShowMe.com, or Join.me. We do not lock you into any particular platform or software. We leave this up to you.

How do I get paid for pod tutoring sessions?

It is important that you first work out payment terms with the parents of the pod before starting a tutoring session. We do not set or dictate your hourly rate or payment terms. This is decided by you and the parents. You are not hired by us but by the parents of the pod.

Parents can pay you directly through your profile page by clicking the "Pay Tutor" button. This opens a secure payment form where the parent can enter an amount and pay by credit card. We take a small 10% fee from each payment which covers our service fee and our advertising costs to bring you new pod tutoring gigs.

After each payment is made, parents will also be prompted to rate you. Tutors who have the most ratings & best ratings appear at the top of tutor searches and are given priority matching with new pods.

We require all payments to be made from the pay button on your profile page in order to protect parents and students. Requesting parents to pay outside of our system can result in your account being disabled.

Am I as a tutor required to purchase a background check?

You will not be able to contact parents or pod leaders until you complete and pass a background check. Parents have a higher level of trust with tutors who have passed a background check and it is important for us to only connect students with trustworthy and qualified tutors. We make it really easy to purchase a background check directly through our system and most checks come back within 24 hours.

How much are your fees?

Cost for a background check is $29 which includes checking the national criminal database, terrorist watch lists and county criminal searches. You have the option to pay additional for Education & Employment Verification and Professional License Verifications. Having these verified check marks on your tutor profile makes you stand out even more and increases your chances of being hired by 3x more than profiles that do not have these checks.

We also take 10% of the amount you invoice parents for tutoring sessions. This 10% covers all credit card processing fees, advertising costs to bring you new pod tutoring opportunities and our service fees.
